Are You About That Life?

"OK, where is she going with this?”, you may ask.  Of course this urban euphemism has been popularized by the infamous reality tv star, Evelyn Lozado of Basketball Wives Miami.  On one BBW episode, the catty Evelyn yells out “B*tch, you aint about this life!”  Ummm, I don’t want to be about Evelyn’s life, nor am I implying you should desire to either.  BUT, seriously, I want to know are you about that life?  What life?  The life YOU want!  I’m sure most of us have goals & aspirations that seem pretty far-fetched.  How do you make those dreams a reality?
Well, a good start would be to create a vision board.  According to authors Janet and Chris Attwood of the book “The Passion Test” - Never underestimate the power of the mind to create the vision you hold.  The whole thought behind the vision board, is that you are keeping your attention on the things you really want to grow stronger in your life.  Once you create your vision board, you should look at it daily. Sure, it may sound kind of hokey and warm and fuzzy, but if you do your research on vision boards, some pretty powerful people attest to the effectiveness of vision boards.  Several people have credited vision board creation in being a powerful transformational tool.  Oprah Winfrey is a huge vision board advocate.  I don’t know about you, but Oprah money sounds real good to me right now.  She damn sure is doing something right.  So that alone is enough to give me a stiff kick in the butt to follow suit!  This past week, after much procrastination I finally went ahead & created my vision board here it is.

Several of my friends commented, “Oh, I really need to do this”.  Well, what’s stopping you?  Go ahead & do it NOW!  Be about that life now!  If being fancy with your board is holding you back, just get started.  You can always create another one if you don’t like your first one.  The main thing is take action and go do it!  All you really need is your some poster board (or a notebook), magazines, a marker, and glue and….your thoughts!  I urge you, start your vision board and go get YOUR life!

Meet Top Stylist Moni Cherry of Salon MJ2

If you live in the St. Louis area, you probably are already familiar with top stylist Monica "Moni" Cherry.  If not......Get Familiar!  Moni is owner and master stylist of Salon MJ2.  She is just a talented soul.  The way she finesses her clients' hair coupled her own personal flair - this lady simply exudes creativity & flyness!  Moni was kind enough to allow me to interview her.

Q: When did you first become interested in styling hair?
A: I've had a knack for hair styling since I was five years old.  As a child I was always styling someone's hair and I loved it.

Q: How long have you been a hair stylist?
A: Over 20 years.  I spent a year of studying the University of Missouri, Columbia (Mizzou) and became pregnant with my first son.  I knew that I had to make things happen for my child and myself.  Being a hair stylist was just a natural progression for me and I knew that I could be successful doing it.

Q:What type of styles do you specialize in?
A: I do all types of hair styles and hair types: relaxed, short, long, dyed, you name it.  However, what I do specialize in is healthy hair. Healthy Hair is key to me.  I will not perform certain styles or techniques on clients whose hair is not in a healthy state.  I'm also great with flat ironing natural hair, leaving the natural hair with minimal/no heat damage, allowing those natural curls to spring back for the naturalistas upon the next hair shampoo.

Q: How long have you been a salon owner?
A: Over 8 years.

Q: As a business owner, what's one thing that's most important to you?
A: Charity and giving back to the community is very important to me.  I make sure that my salon is involved in several community outreach and charitable causes throughout the entire year.  Charities involving children are especially near and dear to my heart because 'Moni loves the kids', LOL.

Q: Do you have any advice for new shop owners and/or people setting out to be new entrepreneurs?
A: For new shop owners, I would say that it's about quality not quantity.  Be sure to pick a team of stylists for your shop that are committed.  Don't get caught up on the glitz and glam of having a big shop tons of stylist booths.  Chose a shop size that you feel confident you can financially manage, even if all of your stylist booths are not rented.  For entrepreneurs in general, think all of your decisions thoroughly.  Be aware of all of the possibilities and pros/cons of your business decisions.  Stay strong, focused and keep working towards your dream.  I love being an entrepreneur. I love the creative freedom that I have as a business owner.

OK, I'm going to blog more!

Sooo, I have this really cute blog page just sitting here and I haven't properly utilized it.  Why, you ask?  Definitely not because I'm short of words (trust me, my husband can attest to this).  Well, honestly I've just been crazy busy with my handmade jewelry venture, Lovemade Treasures, and being a mother, wife, and full time employee.  I'm trying hard to balance it all (toughest juggling act ever!).  N-T-Ways, I definitely plan on having more content to share.  I must do this in order to fulfill the vision that I had when I first started my site.  What type of things do you plan on talking about in your blog?  Hmmm, well let's see: Motivation, Empowerment, Fashion, Hair, Motherhood, Marriage, and Pop Culture all come to mind as things that truly hold my interests, so I think we'll start there.  Also, I LOVE LOVE LOVE talented people!  I definitely plan on featuring various people that I find interesting so that the can share their talents with my blog readers. I have some great ideas lined up for the future. So, if you would be so kind, go ahead and become a BeLoveMade blog follower.  You won't be disappointed ;-)
